Contractor Parking Permit Criteria

A Contractor Parking Permit are used for short term projects in downtown Erie. Short term projects are defined as, parking 30 days or less at the same location. The annual fee for the permit is $150.00 The Erie Parking Authority issues these permits which are valid from May 1 of one year to April 30 of the succeeding year.  The permits are monitored via the license plate information given by the contractor at time of purchase.

 In order to be eligible for a Contractor Parking Permit, commercial vehicles must bear the business trade name on the exterior of the vehicle (minimum size is 12”x12”), paper/cardboard signs are not acceptable. An application will only be approved when it is determined that the contractor parking permit is being requested for a contractor vehicle which is used only for contractor service.  This ordinance (523.27) was established to enable licensed contractors to access their vehicles during the workday to retrieve materials, tools and engage in work at a specific site free of charge during the duration of such work.

 When a commercial vehicle has purchased a valid Contractor Parking Permit and is being used for contractor service, the driver may park without limitation as to time and without payment for any parking meter fees on streets where parking is time limited but not prohibited, 30 day maximum.  Contractor Parking Permits may be used at metered off-street parking lots only upon notifying the Authority in advance of the lot location.  The Erie Parking Authority has the right to revoke this permit for any reason deemed sufficient, with no refund.  All other parking ordinances are still in place and you can receive a ticket for ordinances other than expired meter.
